My Breaking Point: A Prime Candidate for Change
I was introduced to Positive Intelligence at the end of 2020. I had no idea at the time, but I was a prime candidate for this program. Here’s why:
- Exhaustion: I was exhausted from trying to work full-time and parent my two small kids who were just 6 and 3 at the time. The constant demands and lack of personal time left me drained.
- Frustration: I was frustrated with the leadership team at my work who didn’t seem to know what they were doing. This added to my daily stress.
- Overwhelmed with Fear: I was overwhelmed with stress and fear about my elderly loved ones dying from Covid. This was a heavy emotional burden.
- Feeling Everything: I had just quit drinking earlier that year, and I was feeling the full force of all of my feelings without numbing them. It was intense and often painful.
All of these things left me completely frazzled. What I didn’t realize was that my inner saboteurs had completely taken over my mind. It felt like I was just trying to get through each day without biting someone’s head off. Unfortunately, most days I wasn’t successful, and my kids took the brunt of my pain.
Discovering Positive Intelligence: A New Set of Tools
Enter my new coach, Laurie. In my first session with her, I explained where I was at, and she quickly suggested the Positive Intelligence program could provide me with a great set of tools to rewire my brain and how I was approaching my life.
I had nothing to lose, so I decided to try it. Initially, I was a bit skeptical, but being a pleaser and a hyper-achiever, I made sure to complete all of the exercises each day.
The Turning Point: A True Miracle
It was during the second week that everything changed for me. I can still remember it plain as day. I was trying to get my kids ready for bed, which was typically when I would inevitably lose all patience and yell at them. On this day, when I could feel my anger well up, I tried the simple technique I had learned that day, and it actually worked!
The technique involved a brief mindfulness exercise to shift my focus and interrupt the automatic reaction. I was no longer triggered, and I was able to respond to my kids the way I wanted to. It felt like a true miracle.
Sharing the Gift: From Participant to Coach
After that night, I dove in head first into the mental fitness training, and I started seeing significant changes in all areas of my life. Beyond responding to my kids differently, my relationships improved, I felt more calm and focused at work, and I had more energy. I wanted to share this newfound happiness with others.
Once I completed the program, I quickly signed up to get certified to become a Positive Intelligence Coach. That was back in 2021, and since then, I’ve become a master in understanding and practicing the Sage powers myself. I also lead groups of women (and occasionally men) through the 7-week Positive Intelligence program several times a year.
